Hello MMS Attendees!

We are just over two months away from MMS! As we move into spring, we are continuing to work to bring you an amazing conference that you have grown to expect and look forward to seeing you there!

A few updates as MMS approaches:

  • We will sellout again this year - make sure your colleagues/friends register as soon as possible! The same story goes for the hotel – book your hotel (through Eventbrite registration) before we run out of rooms (late registrants will still get rooms across the street).
  • Welcome Reception - On Sunday, May 14th there will be a welcome reception from 5-7:30pm. Keep an eye out for further details in the coming weeks.
  • Vote! A friendly reminder to vote on your favorite sessions.
  • Nerds of a Feather Sessions - Keep an eye on http://mms2017.sched.com - we’ll be posting NoF sessions soon. (Read more about NoF in our FAQ). 
  • Subscribe to our YouTube Channel - We posted our first YouTube video for MMS 2017 - Lee Berg interviews @adaptiva’s CEO, Jim Souder. Adaptiva is also the diamond sponsor for MMS 2017. Be sure to subscribe, as we will be posting more videos soon.

MMS 2017 - Just over Three Months Away!

The new 4-day MMS 2017 is just over three months away! Here are some quick tips to get you rolling.

Register Now - There are still tickets available for this year's summit, but they won't last. In past years our conference has sold out so make sure your friends purchase their tickets ASAP.    

Sessions – We will begin posting sessions this week - be sure to get out and vote

Update Your Profile - MMS is all about community. Registered attendees should update your profile on sched.org, and consider linking to Twitter and Facebook to find your friends, and see which sessions they plan to attend. Also, we encourage you to upload a photo (of your face, preferably) to help others identify you at the conference.   

Welcome reception – We will be hosting a welcome reception Sunday, May 14th at 5pm. Further details will be announced in the near future, please plan to attend! 

Tweet & Tag – Our team does a great job in bringing in the best speakers in this space so let's make sure to get the word out there. You will not find a better value for your dollar for a conference. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and use #MMSMOA or @MMSMOA to tag the conference.   

Important! – The Midwest Management Summit is now four long, full days. We will start early Monday morning, and our last session will start around 5:30pm on Thursday, so plan to stay at the hotel that night if you are not local.   (Hint – you'll find most of us at the Firelake Grill).

Sessions Posting Soon - Prepare to Vote!

Session Updates! 

We will begin posting sessions this week, and wanted to point out a few items: 

  • The sessions are real, the time slots are NOT. You will notice that all sessions are at the same time on Monday, May 15th with a location "TBD".  
  • Sessions will trickle in over the next few weeks – We will be posting more than 115 unique sessions, so check back often to see what's new. 
  • Approximately TWO WEEKS prior to MMS 2017, we will post the day, time, and location for each session. 

With that information in mind, we need your help to find the most popular sessions - we want you to VOTE! Please register for the sessions that appear interesting to you, and we will take this feedback to do our best to ensure we slot each session for the appropriate sized room with the least amount of collisions. For sessions that are very popular, we will also create repeat sessions to make it a little easier to fit it into your schedule. Please note that as mentioned above, we will slot each session around the beginning of May. At that time, we will remove all session selections, and ask you to re-select your sessions based on the slotted time.

I would like to request approval to attend the 4th annual Midwest Management Summit (MMSwww.mmsmoa.com) hosted by Minnesota System Center User Group in Bloomington, MN, May 15-18. This conference is a unique opportunity to help develop not only my system management skills and competencies, but also a chance to build upon our current systems management practices. This is a great opportunity for me to be a part of the System Center community and to take home best practices, new ideas, and real world insights for program improvement that I can share with our entire team. 

 

MMS will highlight technical training across all Microsoft System Center product lines, current and upcoming releases, new features and technological trends, as well as the real-world challenge to success. The 4-day conference will have training with a variety of sessions, product demos, real world issues and solutions, networking, and other social elements. The conference strives to meet three goals: top quality real world content and presenters, intimate size, and affordability.  

 

I am seeking our organization’s approval for the registration fee and travel expenses. This event is an incredible value considering the comprehensive array of sessions, hands-on experiences, and the networking opportunities. 

 

Here is an approximate breakdown of conference costs:

Other Common Questions: 

  • What is the conference about? The conference focuses on deep technical content on System Center products featuring world-class presenters. Technical sessions at MMS will be level 300, 400, and 500.  

  • Who will I meet there? I will meet industry experts that are globally recognized that provide real world information for me to gain knowledge from as well as my peers in systems management to glean experiences from. Because of the intimate size, I will have the opportunity to take time to meet the presenters. There’s time to actually absorb what I see and talk with over with speakers and other attendees. 

  • Why is it good for me to meet and network with those people? Many of those in attendance are willing to provide contact information to provide minor guidance on technical issues.  

  • What will I learn there? The content that is presented is specific to my role vs Ignite being an aggregation of all Microsoft technologies. There will be over 100 sessions focused on System Center, Microsoft Cloud, SQL Server and PowerShell.  

  • How will this learning enhance what I can offer to my employer? I can bring my current issues and roadmap discussions to technology specialists in their area of expertise.  

  • Are there any practical benefits that will result? Possible remediation of current issues, guidance on where to go in the future from a technology standpoint, and real world pitfalls that were experienced and what to do to avoid them.  

 

The Midwest Management Summit has the ideal opportunity for me to strengthen my skill set and make valuable contacts with others in our industry. Attendance at this conference can be considered part of our organization’s investment in the future.

Food at MMS

MMS does not include the cost of meals in our standard registration package. During MMS, you can enjoy complimentary coffee, water, and light snacks. For standard meals, we encourage you to take advantage of all the food located in and around the Mall of America, or consider our MMS Meal Plan option.

MMS Meal Plan

For some companies (and employees), it's easier for you to choose a registration package that includes food, rather than managing your receipts for each meal. When registering, simply select the meal plan for $50 per day, and at registration you'll receive a $50 gift card (per day) for the FireLake Grill House. You can then use these gift cards any time you choose, for any amount, for food and beverages.

An attendee favorite for breakfast, lunch, dinner, AND drinks, the FireLake Grill House is right next to the conference center. You will find speakers mingling with attendees pretty much any time of day or night here. Great food (ask about their $10 beer and burger for lunch), and the cocktail bar is open till midnight during the week.

And just a five-minute walk from the conference center you will find dozens of food choices. Andrew Zimmern's blog lists 7 Food Spots at the Mall of America that Don't Suck – that's a good start, but there are many more than don't suck, we promise.

Breakfast and Late Night

Caribou Coffee is next to the conference center. IHOP is just across the street for breakfast. And TGI Fridays is also next door and is open late. Chevy's is also a late night option.
